8. My gear has lost some of its water repellency – What can I do?

Clean the garment. We suggest using Granger's G-Wash Cleaner Plus.
To restore the water repellency in your gear we recommend using Granger's Waterproofing for Synthetic Fabrics – either wash-in or spray-on versions. (You can find it in most sports specialty stores) Use the wash-in method for shell garments and follow the label directions. Be sure to use luke warm water to wash and rinse, place the garment in a drier for 45 minutes at medium heat to heat-set the fininsh and remove it promptly. For soft-shell garments, Granger’s offers Soft Shell Proof to restore water-repellency.

For more information about Granger’s garment care products, visit www.grangersusa.com or call Axis Outdoor at 800-335-0260 – email them at info@axisoutdoor.com.

13. How do I clean my down jacket or sleeping bag?

PROPER CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOWN GARMENTS

Wash in Granger’s Down Wash Plus.. Do not use typical liquid laundry detergent on Gore-Tex fabric. It may leave a residue ( such as fabric softeners, fragrance, color brighteners) which could clog the pores of the Gore-Tex. We recommend using warm water for wash and rinse. Do not use all hot or all cold water. It is extremely important to rinse the down very well. We recommend two rinse cycles. For spot cleaning, Granger’s offers G-Wash Spray Cleaner Plus. Both Granger’s cleaners include an odor elimination component that will help keep your bag ‘fresh.’

Dry in dryer on low heat (temperature not to exceed 140 degrees F). Put two clean tennis balls (or similar objects such as “sock balls”) in with the garment. It is extremely important to make sure that your down product is dry to the fullest in order for it to regain its loft. Remove at once; do not allow the garment to remain in the dryer. (A down jacket may take 2-3 hours and a down sleeping bag may take 4-6 hours to dry.)

For removing heavily soiled spots, it is recommended by W.L. Gore to use “Spray & Wash” or “Shout”  We have found Grangers G-Wash Cleaner Plus spray very effective on all types of fabric including Gore-tex..

Do not dry-clean your down and/or Gore-Tex products.

SPECIAL SLEEPING BAG NOTICE:

DO NOT WASH OR DRY sleeping bags in home laundry equipment. Use a front-loading machine at a Laundromat and low temperature dryer. Home laundry equipment is too small and may damage sleeping bags.

14. How do I clean my Gore-Tex shell?

PROPER CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS FOR GORE-TEX SHELLS

Wash in Granger’s G-Wash Cleaner Plus—an effective, residue-free cleaner. Typical laundry detergents contain fabric softeners, fragrance and color brighteners which are water-attractive residues—not something you want on the surface of your Gore-Tex fabric. A mild powered detergent, such as  “Dreft”  is acceptable if thoroughly rinsed.  (Absolutely NO “Ivory Snow”  or Woolite—they are loaded with wate-attractive residues).

Do NOT use a liquid detergent on Gore-Tex fabric. It leaves a residue, which clogs the pores of the Gore-Tex and causes leakage. If the garment is non-Gore-Tex it is okay.

Never use all hot water or all cold water on Gore-Tex. Always use a warm wash and a warm rinse. It is extremely important to rinse the garment well. We recommend two rinse cycles or wash it once with detergent and again without.

Dry in dryer on LOW heat, at the end of the drying cycle, you may increase the heat to WARM and dry for an additional 15 minutes. This will remove some of the wrinkles from the fabric. Remove at once; do not allow the garment to remain in the dryer (it may cause burns on the fabric if it sits on the hot metal).

You may use a spot cleaner to remove stubborn spots before washing. Granger’s G_Wash Spray Cleaner Plus works well.  W.L. Gore is also comfortable recommending “Spray & Wash” or “Shout”.

If necessary, grease can be spot cleaned at the dry cleaners and then sprayed with any non-silicone spray (z-pel) - but do NOT dry clean the whole garment.

15. How do I restore the water repellency in my Gore-Tex gear?

RESTORE WATER REPELLENCY IN GORETEX

Clean the garment. We suggest using Granger’s G-Wash Cleaner Plus.

To restore the water repellency to Gore-Tex we recommend using Granger’s Waterproofing for Synthetic Fabrics—either wash-in or spray-on versions. (You can find it in most sports specialty stores.) Use the wash-in method for most shell garments and follow the label directions. Be sure to use warm water to wash and rinse. Use the spray-on version for garmens with DriClime® linings. Place the treated garment in a drier for 45 minutes at medium heat to heat-set the fininsh and remove it promptly. For soft-shell garments, Granger’s offers Soft Shell Proof to restore water-repellency.

16. Why does Marmot encourage proper care and feeding of their garments and gear?

It is really quite simple. We feel we make the best in the business and want you to be satisfied with the Marmot garments and equipment you purchase. Proper care assures you will optimize the performance of Marmot products and maximize their service-life. We have tested and believe that Granger’s cleaners and restorative DWR treatments are the easiest and most effective way to maintain you Marmot gear. Visit www.grangersusa.com for more information about Granger’s products and tips on caring for your gear.
