In my own words-
I started hunting and fishing with my dad when I could walk and playing team sports when I was 4 years old. This birthed a love of anything active especially when it was outdoors. I remember receiving a gaming system for Christmas when I was 5 and never being able to play for more the fifteen minutes before I was tired of it and just wanted to go outside. This love of the outdoors has grown exponentially over the years as I have been introduced to the many possible adventures I could pursue. I grew up hearing that I needed to stop trying everything and stick to one thing so I could master it, but my excitement was much too strong for that. The saying “A jack of all trades is a master of none” was something I heard quite a bit. Until I did a little research and found out the actual quote is, “A jack of all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one.” I love all things outdoors and try to explore as much of it as my life allows me to.
I grew up in Missouri as a serious tennis player but still enjoyed participating in basketball, track, soccer, and swimming. Of course living by a couple of large lakes gave me the opportunity to camp, water ski, wakeboard, and at that time knee board plus all of the other motorized water “sports”. I moved to Colorado a month after graduating from high school which was a huge introduction into a whole new line of interests. With the mountains so close I began trail and distance running, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, paddling, and climbing. I am probably missing a few, but if it was an adventure and it was outside you could count me in.
If I have to pick my favorites they would be trail running and climbing. When I am by myself running through the woods somehow I am transformed into a little kid again. Its peaceful and every step I take is an adventure in itself. Climbing is in a lot of ways the same and the supportive climbing community is second to none.
It’s no wonder why I chose the outdoor industry as my career path. I began with SA Elite in which I held many roles as it was a new concept by Sports Authority. The most notable being a new store opener which afforded me the opportunity to travel opening new stores. Then I made the move to PrAna and now combining all I love, have learned, and the continued growth I hope for make the move to work with AAO. A company that believes in inspiring and being inspired to not only better oneself but to create opportunities for an adventurous life.
