The BIG News of the
Month
The
overwhelming success of Orikaso. The product is flying
off the shelves—especially in stores that set up a few pieces for
customers to see and play with. Hiking & camping season is here and
it’s not too late to join in the fun.
New Canadian
Distribution Facility. Axis Outdoor has
hired CDEC in Quebec to handle warehousing and order fulfillment for
Granger's and Orikaso. This is in response to requests by our
Canadian customers to reduce freight charges and transit times. Both
brands have bilingual packaging to comply with Canadian requirements
and are in stock. Please order in carton quantities to avoid a $.50
per piece handling fee. Our Canadian stock uses new item numbers and
UPC barcodes. Email
info@axisoutdoor.com if
you need the new item number/UPC code list.

Great Press Coverage.
The media has been very kind to
us. Orikaso has appeared in Backpacker August 2005, Denver Post June
9, 2005, Washington Trails Magazine April 2005, Espace Magazine
March 2005, Geo Plein Air June 2005, Moto Euro Spring 2005 and
Transworld Business June 2005. We have write-ups slated in the LA
Times this week and Endless Vacation Magazine in October.
Denver Post—Orikaso.
“Just about every innovation in backpacking
these days is focused on weight. The industry's gearmakers are
designing ever-lighter gadgetry, allowing pack-bearing hikers to
spend more, well-equipped time in the woods. To wit: Flatworld's
Orikaso. Designed after its folded-paper cousin, Orikaso is flat
sheets of polypropylene that fold into bowls, dishes and cups. The
easy- to-clean and easier to pack plate- ware have stormed the
backpacking world and threaten to permanently end the reign of those
blue- and white-speckled tin plates campers can't escape. The
hot-or-cold Orikaso plastic sheets can be used as a pasta strainer,
funnel, coffee filter, chopping board, hot pad and dog watering
bowl. A set of two dishes, two cups and two bowls weighs a measly 8
ounces and unfolds into tiny flat sheets for easy packing. Orikaso
soon could find a seat next to the Swiss Army Knife in the
backpacking world of top inventions.”

TECH TIPS
ORIKASO -- Fold it
first. As the
instructions point out (although who really reads them), you should
pre-bend the Orikaso products along the creases in both directions
prior to assembly. This makes assembly even easier. Orikaso creases
become stronger the more they are folded.
GRANGER’S – Q & A
Q.
What is the durability of the DWR finish?
A.
The durability of the durable water repellent finish (DWR) depends
upon the quality of the original application at the textile
finishing factory, the type and texture of the fabric and how you
care for the fabric. The first two factors are out of your control.
The maintenance is something you can affect. Fluoro chemical based
DWR finishes on modern fabrics is long lasting. With normal use and
proper maintenance—regular cleaning with a residue-free cleaner—the
DWR should last several seasons. DWR finishes are not permanent and
will eventually wear off. Luckily, the DWR is easily restored with
Granger’s waterproofing treatments.
Q. Is heat drying
necessary?
A. Most restorative DWR treatments that rely on the industry
standard fluoro chemical technology require heat (tumble drying or
ironing) to align the molecules. It is the heat that activates the
water and stain repellent properties and adds durability. Always
follow the garment manufacturers’ care tag instructions. For
garments that can be tumble dried (and most can), we suggest 50
minutes on a medium heat (permanent press) setting. This is
equal to roughly 130F
(55-60C). Another option is to iron (medium heat setting) the
garment. The right Granger's treatment combined with the recommended
amount of heat will restore the DWR to original DWR performance.
DRYZONE – Q & A
Q. What are some
’non-winter’ uses of Dryzone Boot Dryers?
A.
There are literally hundreds of uses. Here’s a few.
